The spending review is a long-term plan for spending over the coming years. June’s had some real positives for North Northumberland, bringing some much-needed investment to the region. Find out how North Northumberland is impacted below.

June spending review

The Spending Review decides what money is given to different government departments over the next three years.

Today we announced the Spending Review until 2029, which included an extra ÂŁ190bn for our schools, NHS, armed forces, and transport.

After years of apathy and austerity, Labour knows that if we want a better future, we need to invest in it.

This makes the Spending Review a massive investment in our country and in North Northumberland.

We’re investing in:

  • Schools and families: up to 2900 children will be eligible for free school meals from next year. ÂŁ2.4billion a year will be invested for school rebuilds. I’ll be pushing for North Northumberland to get its fair share of this for our school estate.
  • The NHS: there’s ÂŁ29billion a year more for our NHS. This includes innovation and mental health teams in every school. It is so crucial that our NHS is prepared for the future.
  • Defence: will be getting billions a year, a 2.5% rise, including proper spending on military homes. We’ve already bought 270 military homes in North Northumberland back from contractors so that we can house military personnel properly.
  • And transport: the Department for Transport budget is going up by ÂŁ2billion a year. I’ve been meeting with National Highways for months to arrange how we can bid for maximum funds to improve safety along the A1, and I will continue to campaign for North Northumberland to get its fair share.
