Council Funding

Northumberland County Council is getting more money than before from Labour Govt. Their claims about future funding don’t hold up.

Responding to Council claims about funding

I’ve seen some concerns raised recently about funding for Northumberland County Council (NCC) under new Government plans (see Gazette article at end).

I know local Conservatives will firstly welcome the extra £25m Northumberland received last year from the Labour Government.

(The now-scrapped Rural Services Delivery Grant mentioned by Cllr. Oliver was worth just £3m.)

I also know they will share my concern that last year NCC added £90m to the highest debt pile in the North East.

The current formula for future council funding gives Northumberland a better weighting than London councils like Westminster, Camden and Hackney.

I’ll be fighting for it to stay that way, and I know NCC will be working hard to bring its debt down and use their increased funding from Labour wisely.
