What’s not working in the Rural Economy?

The Labour Rural Research Group has opened a new investigation into the rural economy.

What are your experiences of doing business in rural Northumberland? You can have your say in our consultation before 6th May.

Honoured to Serve North Northumberland.

Rural Economy is ‘fundamental’ to Britain

At the Labour Rural Research Group (LRRG) we have launched our latest call for evidence to inform our next report examining the future of the rural economy.

Building on the insights gathered from our last reports: ‘Understanding Rural Britain’ and ‘Rural Poverty in Britain’, our third report will look at the current state of the rural economy.

This includes the industries that support the rural economy and the barriers faced by rural businesses, as well as the policy environment shaping their growth. We want to to take a forward-looking view to 2040, with a particular focus on the actions needed during the current parliament to unlock long-term growth, resilience and opportunity.

Rural areas are fundamental to the UK’s economic, social and environmental success. Home to distinctive industries, deep expertise and a highly-skilled workforce, our rural areas hold significant untapped potential, yet deep barriers continue to constrain our ability to thrive, scale and attract investment.

This is why I am inviting all relevant stakeholders in North Northumberland to share your experiences of doing business in rural Britain and the barriers and opportunities shaping the rural economy. You can respond here.

I hope you will consider making a submission, and I look forward to sharing the report on all my platforms.
